Cooking Tip

Cooking can be seen as something we enjoy doing or something we dread. Some people are good at making meals for the whole family; whilst for others their specialty may be spaghetti on toast. Getting the right tips to make the ‘perfect’ meal will help you on your way to making a meal that you can be proud of and enjoy.

A good recipe to make shouldn’t take you all day. It shouldn’t be something you stress over and should be something you can take step by step. Most well cooked meals (with the exception of a roast) are prepared in around 30 minutes and take the same amount of time to cook.

You should organise your ingredients before you start preparing the meal and ensure you have everything readily available. Get all the ingredients you will require out of the pantry or fridge before you start so you don’t panic searching for items.

Make sure fruit and vegetables are washed and clean so once they have been cooked they will taste fresh. Most recipes will have thorough instructions and measurements for you to follow. Don’t be worried if your measurements are a little out. Most chefs don’t accurately measure things anyway and tend to go by how the mixture looks or feels.

Making a good meal isn’t about spending a lot of time on it. Great dinners can be made even if you don’t have much time. Life can be busy sometimes and you may find it hard to make time to cook a decent meal. But it can be easy to include fresh vegetables and meat somewhere in your recipe. If you are extremely busy you can cook a dish one night but use most of the same ingredients the second night. This will save you time as well as ensure you are getting all your weekly dietary requirements.
